One of the most enjoyable outings from San Miguel de Allende is to spend the day at one of the balnearios, or spas built around natural springs. The thermal pools are sulfurous waters with temperatures up to 104 degrees. The warm thermal waters are ideal for soaking and relaxation. Most of the hot springs can be found clustered 9km to the northwest from San Miguel de Allende on the road to San Miguel de Allende-Dolores Hidalgo Highway 110. There are several tours that can take you to the hot springs or there are Second-class buses to Dolores Hidalgo from San Miguel's bus station will all drop off on the highway near the hot springs. Balneario Escondido Place - Thermal spring with nine pools, with each pool varying in temperature. The water temperature ranges from 30º to 40º C (86º to 104º F). This is a good place to bring kids because the springs have cooler temperatures and grass areas, gardens, barbeque grills and a restaurant-bar.
Balneario La Gruta - The most polpular thermal sping offering three pools with thermal waters. Through one pool you could wade down a dark tunnel into a large dome-shaped cave and relax in the warm waters. The water temperature is about 38º C (100º F). This place also has showers, a locker room and a good restaurant.
Balneario Taboada - This resort has a large pool, a wading pool, grass areas where you can enjoy a picnic, showers and restrooms.
